A fun-filled summer awaits Loon’s budding artists as the Center for Developments in Culture, Heritage and the Arts (Charts), in coordination with the Loon Amateur Artists (LAMÂ), will open the Summer Arts Workshop tomorrow.

This month-long workshop, programmed to clinch on May 20, will be held at the CHARTS Building located in barangay Moto Sur, Loon.

Created through the initiative of dynamic Loon Mayor Lloyd Peter Lopez, who is also the chairperson of Loon Culture, Heritage and the Arts Council, the summer workshop is open to everyone, regardless of age.

The only requirement is inclination in the arts.

Well-known local artists- -Carlito Masalta, a product of the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts and Rene Eune Ponte, ICS Commercial Arts- -will handle the workshop classes Mondays through Fridays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m..

Participants must equip themselves with art supplies for their media- -charcoal pencils, watercolor, chalk, oil pastel, oil paint, acrylic paint, paper, and other art paraphernalia.

They are advised, however, to wait for what type and kind of medium/media the facilitators would advise them to secure.

This shall be based on what particular medium the participant is good, based on their progress.

Full-fledged LAMÂ members and fellow artists Ericson Masas and Lemuel Cornito are also expected to participate from time to time and serve as assisting facilitators.

Although registration is pegged at P2,000 per participant, there is an added bonus for the first 30 students to enroll who will pay only P500.

The LGU, through CHARTS, shall shoulder the P1,500 balance as counterpart.

Meanwhile, the workshop in photo silkscreen printing (specifically for T-Shirts and other fabrics) deals with photo silkscreen processing for one-color and color separation (CMYK) prints.

This will be handled by Ponte for three sessions only- -Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1-5 p.m. also at the CHARTS Building.

This workshop is available for all summer weekends starting April 20 up to May 31.

Registration in the photo silkscreen printing is P2,000 per student. This is inclusive of a beginner’s Kit containing stretched silk screen, squeegee, electric dryer, chemicals, additives and paints. A ten-percent discount is given for the first 25 registrants.

After completing the lessons, the participant can start his/her own shirt printing business, a good alternative source of income.

Registration is now accepted at Charts through Ponte, Charts/Creative Industries Development officer.
