‘Let us express our gratitude,’ Lim’s Mother’s Day message

Let us express our gratitude to our mothers.
This was the message of Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Lim on the celebration of Mother’s Day today.
“The least that we can do is articulate our heartfelt gratitude to mothers for the love that they shared with us.
There is no music sweeter to the ears of a mother that the tribute that they can receive from their own children,” the mayor declared.
Lim however said the best way to make a mother happy is to follow the path of righteousness that they taught their children.
“When we live this way, we will not only honor our earthly mothers but also the Father who made it possible for them to become mothers,” he added.
The mayor said no one is poorer than those who did not know the experience of a loving mother in this world.
“In spite of the advances in science and technology, there is nothing sweeter to a baby than mother’s milk right from a mother’s breast,” he added.
While the birth of a child came about because of two people, the mayor said there is no doubt about the suffering that the mother goes through during pregnancy and especially at child birth.
“While the world has improved on the manufacture of baby’s milk, the milk produced by human hands will never be able to compare with the breast milk that the mother can give,” he added.
He said that while more and more parents have entrusted their child-rearing responsibilities to helpers, no one can really take the place of a mother in a child’s life.
To prove his point, the mayor said that his mother, former Vice Mayor Gloria Neri Lim, continues to treat him like a child until this time even though he has grown up children of his own.
“A mother’s role is never done,” Lim noted.
The mayor said that to a loving mother, her child is the most good-looking.
“This is why some people are described as having the face that only a mother can love,” he pointed out.
Lim said a loving mother does not expect to be repaid for her sacrifices and does not remember the sacrifices she gave for her children.
“A real mother does not count how much she has spent for her children,” he added.
The mayor said that one of the biggest casualties of the economic downturn is the quality of motherly care. Instead of receiving the training directly from their mothers, he said more and more children today are left under the care of domestic helpers.
Although there are helpers who perform their tasks sincerely, Lim said no one can take the place of a mother who truly loves her children.
The mayor noted that many children today know how to outwit their parents because of what they learn from their helpers.
In the same manner, Lim said many parents do not really know their children because they see only what their children show them when they are together.
“It is sad that as a consequence, while parents and children live under one roof and share the same bloodline, they no longer recognize each other and are virtual strangers to each other,” the mayor said.
