| January 31, 2010 The military stay on alert against the reported effort of the Communist Terrorist Movement (CTM) to regain lost mass bases for the “revival of armed struggle in the province of Bohol . The intelligence unit of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion of the Special Forces Regiment (Airborne), SOCOM of the Philippine ArmyAirforce based in barangay Riverside , municipality of Bilar , recently snapped information on alarming activities of the partylist groups (PLGs) tagged as the reds’ mainstream network in the nearby barangays. The information led to the concern that the CTM “may launch military actions in the province of Bohol , employing special operations group (SOG) from other islands of Central Visayas in order to portray that the armed struggle in the province is still strong”. The offensive actions are allegedly “designed to intimidate aspiring political candidates for the 2010 elections for the imposition and smooth implementation of the so-called permit to campaign (PTC) fees”. Information also reached the army intelligence unit that partylist groups (PLGs)- - AnakPawis, Bayan Muna, Gabriela and Kabataan in Bohol- -intend to “strengthen their political machineries by establishing their respective provincial, municipal and barangay chapters to assure victory in the so-called electoral struggle”. The information was gathered from the monitoring routine in District White Area Committees (DWACs) in the province wherein DWAC-1 covers the Tagbilaran City and the municipalities of Maribojoc, Loon, Antequera, Calape and Tubigon. DWAC-2 covers the municipalities of Clarin, Inabanga, Danao, Trinidad, Talibon and Bien Unido; and DWAC-3 covers the municipalities of Alicia, Mabini, Candijay, Anda, Jagna , Valencia and Dimiao. The intelligence unit monitored that the meeting of the Women’s Development Center (WDC) in late afternoon of January 9, at sitio Taytay in barangay Monte Suerte in the municipality of Carmen , focused on the forthcoming 2010 automated elections. Ira Pamat of BWAC presided over the meeting which gathered more or less 20 members from barangays Monte Suerte and Villaflor. Then, AnakPawis Partylist postponed its municipal congress set at the Catholic Church in the municipality of Candijay from January 12 to January 21, for unknown reason. It was later found out that on January 12, about 10 leaders of AnakPawis, Bayan Muna and Gabriela in Bohol “went to Leyte and linked up with other PLG leaders from Cebu, Negros, Panay, Leyte and Mindanao area”. Then the PLG leaders departed for Metro Manila to attend a national congress of Makabayang Koalisyon ng Mamamayan (Makabayan). The intelligence unit also traced that the same participants of the Makabayan congress also “participated in a mass protest march-caravan-rally from Laguna to Metro Manila on January 18 in connection with the EDSA II People Power”. |
